#What Is Accessibility?

Web accessibility (also referred to as a11y) is the practice of making your websites usable by everyone. While we traditionally think of this as being about people with disabilities, accessible design also benefits:

  • Users on mobile devices
  • Users with slow network connections
  • Users in challenging environments (bright sunlight, noisy locations)
  • Aging populations with changing abilities

Accessibility support is necessary to allow assistive technology (screen readers, keyboard navigation, etc.) to properly interpret and interact with web pages.
