# Installation & Setup

This guide shows you how to add the Virtual Stadium Data SDK to your project and initialize it before using any SDK services.

> **Info**
>
> **Ready to start integrating?** After installation, continue with the [Getting Started Guide](https://apidocs.sportradar.com/resources/virtual-stadium/docs/sdk/gettingStarted.md).

## System Requirements

### Android

- Minimum SDK: 23
- Target SDK: latest available
- Kotlin: 1.8.0 or higher

### iOS

- Minimum iOS: 11.0
- Xcode: 12.0 or higher
- Swift: 5.0 or higher

## Add SDK to Your Project

**Android**

Add the SDK dependency to your app module's `build.gradle`:

```kotlin
dependencies {
    implementation("com.sportradar.virtualstadium.datasdk:vs-data-sdk-android:<data-sdk-version>")
}
```

**Latest Version**: [![Maven Central](https://img.shields.io/maven-central/v/com.sportradar.virtualstadium.datasdk/vs-data-sdk-android?style=for-the-badge)](https://central.sonatype.com/artifact/com.sportradar.virtualstadium.datasdk/vs-data-sdk-android)

**iOS**

### Swift Package Manager (Recommended)

Swift Package Manager (SPM) is the recommended way to integrate the Virtual Stadium Data SDK into your iOS project.

**1. Open Xcode and Add Package**

In Xcode, select your project in the Project Navigator and go to:

- **File** → **Add Package Dependencies**
- (Or **Package Dependencies** from the project menu)

**2. Enter Repository URL**

In the search field, paste:

```
https://github.com/sportradar/VirtualStadium-SDK-Core
```

**3. Select Version**

Choose your dependency rule:

- **Up to Next Major Version** (recommended): `1.2.3` to `< 2.0.0`
- **Up to Next Minor Version** (stricter): `1.2.3` to `< 1.3.0`
- **Exact Version**: Pin to a specific release

**4. Select Target**

Choose which targets should include the SDK. Typically your main app target.

**5. Complete Installation**

Click **Add Package**. Xcode downloads and links the `VirtualStadiumDataSDK` framework.

**Verify Integration**

In your app target, go to **Build Phases** tab. Under **Link Binary With Libraries**, you should see `VirtualStadiumDataSDK.framework`.

**Need help? Troubleshooting**

**"Package resolution failed"**

- Ensure stable internet connection
- Verify URL: `https://github.com/sportradar/VirtualStadium-SDK-Core`
- Check Xcode version is 12.0 or higher

**"Module not found"**

- Clean build folder: **Cmd + Shift + K**
- Close and reopen your project
- Verify framework is linked in Build Phases

**Swift version incompatibility**

- Ensure your project uses Swift 5.0 or higher
- Check **Build Settings** → **Swift Language Version**

**Updating the Package**

1. Select your project in Project Navigator
2. Go to **Package Dependencies** tab
3. Click the version number next to `VirtualStadium-SDK-Core`
4. Select a new version and click **Update**

### CocoaPods

If you prefer CocoaPods, add this to your `Podfile`:

```ruby
source 'https://github.com/sportradar/VirtualStadium-SDK-Core-Pods.git'
target '<your target>' do
  pod 'VirtualStadiumDataSDK', '<data-sdk-version>'
end
```

Run `pod install`, then open the generated `.xcworkspace` file.

## Initialize the SDK

Initialize the SDK once at app startup before you create channels, log in users, or collect SDK state.

**Android**

Initialize the SDK in your `Application` class:

```kotlin
class VirtualStadiumApp : Application() {
    override fun onCreate() {
        super.onCreate()
        VirtualStadiumSDK.init(applicationContext)
    }
}
```

Register the application in `AndroidManifest.xml`:

```xml
<application
    android:name=".VirtualStadiumApp"
    android:label="@string/app_name">
    <!-- Your activities -->
</application>
```

**iOS**

### SwiftUI

```swift
@main
struct ExampleApp: App {
    init() {
        VirtualStadiumSDK().doInit(context: UserDefaults.standard)
    }
    var body: some Scene {
        WindowGroup {
            ContentView()
        }
    }
}
```

### UIKit

```swift
@main
class AppDelegate: UIResponder, UIApplicationDelegate {
    func application(
        _ application: UIApplication,
        didFinishLaunchingWithOptions launchOptions: [UIApplication.LaunchOptionsKey: Any]?
    ) -> Bool {
        VirtualStadiumSDK().doInit(context: UserDefaults.standard)
        return true
    }
}
```
